Box End Park
Hiding in Box end Kempston sitting back from the road is Box End Park its websites which is informative and has lots of eye catching photos and a weather forecast so you can check the weather on the day you're hoping to do your activity, it also tells us it's the regions newest and most exciting leisure facility. It's centred around two purpose made lakes the site hosts a range of water sports and its own bar and restaurant.' I visited the site to have a look and book my visit, when I arrived there were very skilled boarders doing tricks on the obstacles in the water and it appeared quite quick, I wondered if I'd be able to do it.
So on the sunny morning of the 14th September I arrived rather nervous to take part. I was greeted by a friendly, welcome from the reception staff. I watched a short but informative safety video before getting my kit of a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and kneeboard. I was introduced to my instructor; he was very friendly and showed me on land how to kneel on the board, and how the cable pull works and how best to hold it.
I knelt at the starter block of the cable the instructors explained the lighting system, which told you when to go, and suddenly I was off. It was hard at first, I fell in it was very cold but, you soon warm up. Once you get use to being pulled along by a cable your fine, the next obstacle is mastering the corners I managed by the end to just about get around the lake. The instructors were on hand to help you with any problems and encouragement. The wake boarding community were very nice and there is a good spectator's area. Half way through my 2-hour tasters session my Mum brought drinks and chocolate, they had a variety of choice and the prices were very good. I was tired by the end of the session but had had great fun. I would recommend this to anyone from about 9 years and above. I will be definitely going back to try again and move on to wake boarding, maybe one day I'll be doing tricks. Mum was also so impressed she would like to do the woman's only session they hold followed by a nice meal in the fantastic restaurant and clubhouse facilities.
